The washing machine water inlet valve controls the flow of mains water into the appliance. When it fails, the machine may fill slowly, fail to fill, continue taking in water, or display a water-supply error. Correct diagnosis is important because filters, hoses, water pressure and control signals can produce similar symptoms.
What does the inlet valve do?
The valve is electrically operated and opens when the washing machine requests water. Depending on the model, the assembly may have one or several solenoid outlets to direct water to different detergent compartments.
Common symptoms
Typical signs include no water entering despite an available supply, unusually slow filling, humming without adequate flow, water entering when the appliance should be idle, or leakage around the valve body and connections.
Checks before replacing the valve
Confirm that the supply tap is open, the inlet hose is not kinked and the small filter screens are not blocked. Technicians should also confirm that the appliance is requesting water correctly. A valve should not be replaced solely because the drum does not fill.
Choosing the correct replacement
Use the washing machine brand, full model number and original part reference. Compare the number of outlets, hose connection size, electrical connector, coil specification, mounting points and physical orientation. Similar-looking valves can have different flow paths or electrical requirements.
Safety and installation
Disconnect electrical power and close the water supply before service. After installation, reconnect hoses carefully, restore the supply and inspect every disturbed joint for leakage before returning the appliance to normal use.
